Nestled in the quiet charm of Athol, Mataura Lodge was the perfect getaway for my wife and me this Christmas. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a blazing fire and a lovely bottle of Prosecco-what a delightful way to warm up on a cool winter afternoon! The spacious holiday home was impeccably clean and thoughtfully equipped with all we needed, from a fully fitted kitchen to amazing laundry facilities. We spent our days exploring the stunning Mavora Lakes and cycling portions of the Round the Lakes bike trail, soaking in some truly breathtaking South Island landscapes. After our adventures, the cozy living space invited us to whip up delicious meals and enjoy lazy evenings in a comfy bed. The artistic decor throughout the home added a touch of cultural richness to our stay-an unexpected pleasure for two lovers of nature and art. Mataura Lodge truly exceeded our expectations, and I can't recommend it enough for anyone seeking a peaceful escape in beautiful surroundings. Whether you're interested in fishing, hiking, or skiing, this spot has something for every type of traveler.
